TOPEKA (KSNT) – Normally, fans should not throw anything in the field of play during an athletic event, but this occasion was for a good cause.
The Topeka RoadRunners were trailing Lone Star Brahmas in the 1st period when Cam Strong converted a deflected shot into the goal and just like that the game was stopped as fans threw hundreds of stuffed animals on to the ice.
This wasn’t anything new for Roadrunner or hockey fans as this tradition of the Teddy Bear Toss is popular across North America.
The game was stopped for just a moment as crews as well as players helped gather all of the stuffed toys and deposited into the bed of a truck.
Those toys will be donated to children in local area charities and shelters such as the Topeka Rescue Mission.
As far as the game goes, the RoadRunners were able to pull off the win as they defeated Lone Star 3-2 in overtime.
