23-year-old arrested, linked to string of robberies

JUNCTION CITY (KSNT) — The Junction City Police Department has been investigating a series of hotel robberies that took place in the city this month.

  • Dec. 1: At approximately 4:12 a.m., the Express Inn & Suites at 1214 S. Washington St. was robbed by a single suspect.
  • Dec. 2: At approximately 8:45 a.m. the USA Inn at 1001 E. 6th St. was robbed by a single suspect.
  • Dec. 15: At approximately 11:29 p.m., the Express Inn & Suites at located at 1214 S. Washington St. was again robbed by a single suspect.

It was determined during investigations that the same suspect committed all three robberies. Also, it was found that Salina had several similar robberies and that the suspect description in those robberies matched those of the suspect in the Junction City robberies.

The Dickinson County Sheriff’s Department and the Abilene Police Department were investigating an incident that happened in their jurisdiction and arrested 23-year-old Travis R. Moreland of Chapman, Kan. After they arrested him, they learned he was also involved in the Junction City and Salina robberies. Moreland had been interviewed in connection with those robberies.

During an investigation, evidence was found that linked Moreland to the Salina and Junction City robberies.

Moreland was booked into the Dickinson County Jail on charges not related to the robberies, however. The robbery cases are being forwarded to the Geary County Attorney for prosecution.
