MITCHELLVILLE, Iowa (AP) — A former Iowa mayor who resigned after accusations of inappropriate conduct with children now faces rape charges in Kansas City, Kansas.
The Des Moines Register reports that Jeremy Filbert faces two counts of rape with a victim younger than 14 years old and two counts of aggravated criminal sodomy with a victim younger than 14 years old. Court records show he was arrested in October.
Filbert was accused of inappropriate conduct with children in June 2014 before he resigned as the mayor of Mitchellville last April.
The Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation found that those allegations were not substantiated. Criminal charges weren’t filed in the Iowa case.
A preliminary hearing on the new charges is scheduled in Kansas City on Jan. 15. It wasn’t immediately clear if Filbert has a lawyer.
