(KSNT, Harrison Drake)

TOPEKA (KSNT) — On Saturday at about 12:15 in the afternoon, Shawnee County Sheriff Dispatch received a call from a man checking his beaver traps near the Sherwood dam and water treatment plant. He said he saw a boy who looked to be about 10 years old fishing below the dam.

The man left and came back 25 minutes later to find the boy gone, but the fishing equipment left scattered about. The man wanted to check the water in case the boy had fallen into it.

Mission Fire, AMR, Shawnee County Park Police and Shawnee County Sheriff Deputies were sent to the scene.

Mission Fire Water Rescue checked the water below the dam where the  fishing equipment was but did not find anything in the water. They cleared the area and then Shawnee County Sheriff Deputies went door-to-door checking the area of the boy and speaking with neighbors.

No child was found and no reports of a missing child were ultimately reported in the area.
