‘Intentionally set’ fire causes $75K in damage

TOPEKA (KSNT) — Just after 10:45 a.m. on Thursday, the Topeka Fire Department went to 1045 SW MacVicar Ave. on a call about a structure fire.

The crews who first arrived at the scene saw heavy smoke coming from the house.

Fire suppression crews were then able to extinguish the blaze, which didn’t spread to other buildings.

The house was searched and it was discovered that no one was home when the fire happened. The tenants were found later on and they came to the scene to speak with fire officials.

A TFD Investigation Unit responded to the scene to help with determining what started the fire and where it started.

Their preliminary investigation found that the fire was “intentionally set” and that it began inside the house.

The estimated dollar loss is $75,000, with $50,000 of that being structural and $25,000 being contents.

Any individuals with information about the circumstances of this fire are being asked to please contact Crime Stoppers at 785-234-0007 or Toll Free at 1-800-222 TIPS (8477).
