College wheelchair athletes compete in Wichita tournament

WICHITA, Kan. (KSN) – Eight teams of adapted college athletes are in Wichita this weekend competing in the 2016 Wheelchair Basketball Bash.

The event, which is being held at the YMCA Farha Sport Center Indoor Courts in south Wichita, will feature the two-time defending national champions, the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater.

Other teams in the competition include the University of Auburn, University of Alabama, University of Missouri, University of Illinois, University of Texas at Arlington, Arizona State University and Southwest Minnesota State University.

This year’s event is the 7th annual Wheelchair Basketball Bash.  The tournament is sponsored by the American Collegiate Society for Adapted Athletics.  Its goal is to provide an opportunity for students with disabilities to compete in multiple sports through university sponsored programs against other schools in or out of their conference division.

Friday’s event continues until 7 p.m.  The event on Saturday runs from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m..
