TOPEKA (KSNT) — On Sunday at 3:27 a.m., Topeka Police saw a dark SUV headed westbound on SW 6th Avenue.
The Shawnee County’s Sheriff’s Office was looking for a 1997 Chevy Tahoe in connection with a call about a domestic incident. However, an officer attempted to pull over the SUV after the driver ran a red light at SW 6th and SW Topeka Boulevard. The driver then initiated a pursuit.
As he approached SW 6th Avenue and SW Washburn Avenue, the driver open the driver’s side door and jumped out. When he did so, the SUV ended up running him over.
The driver was transported to a local hospital with potentially life-threatening injuries.
TPD says the area of SW 6th Avenue from SW Lane Street to SW Horne Street should be avoided because accident reconstruction is on scene. KSNT News received a Report!t at 7:39 a.m. indicating they were still on scene.
