Trout season always keeps the lakes busy, and Parks and Recreation Services throughout Northeast Kansas are making sure lakes and creeks are stocked with fish. A fish truck came to dump hundreds of pounds of rainbow trout at Fort Riley Tuesday morning then headed to Ward-Martin Creek to dump trout there as well.
When trout season starts most people go to the lakes, but by putting trout in creeks allows for smaller groups to come and enjoy fishing. Along with being a great place for young kids learning to fish for the first time.
Trout season began back in September and runs through April 15.
Lake Shawnee will be stocked with 7,000 pounds of rainbow trout next Saturday, February 27 and then close the lake to fishing until March 5 to give the trout time to acclimate to their new surroundings.
