TOPEKA (KSNT) – A suspected felon is dead after an officer involved shooting at a home on the 500 block of S.W. Taylor Street. A US Marshal Task Force arrived at the house to serve a felony warrant for a 45 year-old white male, Monday afternoon. KSNT News learned that as officers entered the residence to serve the warrant, they found the suspect inside and were met with resistance.
The Topeka Police Department has confirmed that an officer from the task force shot and killed the suspect. It is not known at this time what the warrant was for, nor the identity of the man inside.
After the shooting, a call was made out to dispatch that an officer was in danger. The Topeka Police Department responded to the call at 3:44 p.m.
“The Sheriff’s department responded, police department responded, the Marshals Service was here as well. And what we did was we buttoned down the scene,” says Capt. Ash Kaboudan of the Topeka Police Department. “AMR responded and that’s also who pronounced the subject.”
Shawnee County District Attorney Chad Taylor was also made aware of the shooting.
The Topeka Police Department will be leading the investigation.
