Baseball: MIAA/AstroTurf Hitter of the Week
Evan Koehler, 1B, Emporia State
Koehler, the national leader in home runs with 11, extended his hitting streak to eight games during the week, getting extra base hits in three of four games played. He went one for three with an RBI in the Hornets 3-1 win over Newman. He was two for four with three RBI and a home run in Emporia States 24-3 win over Lincoln. He went two for three with two doubles, a walk, three runs scored and an RBI in the Hornets 17-2 win over the Blue Tigers. He finished the week going three for four with two home runs, a double, three RBI and three runs scored in Emporia States 19-7 win over Lincoln. The 6-0 senior first baseman is a native of Wichita, Kan. and played two season’s at Butler County Community College.
Softball: MIAA/AstroTurf Hitter of the Week
Taylor Zimmerman, 2B, Washburn
Taylor Zimmerman batted .615 with five home runs, 12 RBI while scoring six runs going 8 of 13 while tying two school records in the opening game at Lincoln as she hit three home runs and drove in seven in the first game against the Blue Tigers. In the opening game she tied a school record with 7 RBI hitting three home runs. In the second game at Lincoln she recorded another home run and drove in four more. She wrapped up the week in her fifth home run of the week driving in one at Lindenwood. The 5-5 senior is a native of Olathe, Kan. where she competed at Olathe Northwest High School prior to playing at Highland Community College.
