SABETHA (KSNT) — The name of a man killed in a traffic accident that closed a stretch of highway 75 near Sabetha Wednesday has been released.
Seventy-seven-year-old Arnold Sherrell from Texas was killed in an accident involving a motorcycle and a semi tractor around 2:54 p.m.
Kansas Highway Patrol’s website said Sherrell was driving a motorcycle in the northbound lane when he tried to pass a northbound semi by moving into the southbound lane.
Forty-five-year-old Tonya Vogt from Indiana was driving a semi tractor in the southbound lane. Sherrell didn’t have enough room to pass the semi ahead of him and could not safely move back over to avoid the semi Vogt was driving. The vehicles collided.
The semi tractor went off of the roadway and caught fire. The Kansas Highway Patrol Crash Log said Vogt was possibly injured.
Drivers were diverted to old U.S. 75 while the road was closed. It was reopened by midnight.
