TOPEKA (KSNT) – The driver of a car that was involved in several crashes last Saturday night has died from his injuries.
The Topeka Police Department tells KSNT News Thursday morning 24-year-old Darrell Blackwell died after the accident at 29th and Topeka Blvd.
A passenger in Blackwell’s vehicle, 23-year-old Alisha Quigley died shortly after the accident. According to Chapel Oaks Funeral home, Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 Friday morning at St. Dominic Catholic Church in Holton. Burial will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery at Holton. She will lie in state at the Chapel Oaks Funeral Home in Holton where a Rosary will be prayed at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday followed by visitation until 8:30.
Topeka police first responded to 5331 SW 22nd Place at 10:26 Saturday night in reference to a motor vehicle accident on the lot involving a Capital City Cab, and the Nissan Altima, driven by Blackwell. Prior to officers’ arrival, both subjects left the scene. As he was leaving the scene, he struck two parked vehicles on the lot. The driver of the Cab was transported to a local hospital for treatment.
At 10:39 p.m., the Emergency Communications Center received a call of another motor vehicle accident on SW 6th between SW Fairlawn and SW Gage involving the Nissan Altima. The driver of the other vehicle involved in this accident followed Blackwell and relayed information as to the direction of travel to the Emergency Communications Center.
Police say Blackwell committed several traffic infractions, and struck another vehicle at SW 6th & MacVicar. The driver continued southbound on MacVicar and then turned east on SW 21st Street. Officers responded to the area in an attempt to locate the vehicle. The Nissan ultimately struck another vehicle, a Chevrolet TrailBlazer at SW 29th & Topeka Blvd killing Quigley, who was in the passenger seat.
