LAWRENCE, Kan. (KSNT) — Lawrence Police have made an arrest in connection with a shooting that happened Wednesday morning near 19th and Rhode Island Street.
The victim, who has what seem to be non-life-threatening injuries, was receiving treatment at a regional trauma center this afternoon.
On Wednesday around 8:42 a.m. officers went to a residence near 19th and Rhode Island Street on a call about a shooting. Two bike patrol officers, who were nearby, were among the first to arrive at the scene.
Authorities were able to get those inside the home on the phone and they were told one person inside had sustained a gunshot wound to the leg. Officers entered the residence through a rear door and made contact with the three people inside. The victim, a 39-year-old man, was conscious when officers found him.
Lawrence Douglas County Fire Medical units responded to the scene and took the victim to a staging area near 19th and Haskell, where he was then taken by air ambulance to a regional trauma center.
The male and female occupants of the home were taken to the Investigations and Training Center for questioning. Investigators learned the two men, who knew each another, had an altercation inside the house just before the shooting.
When the interviews were finished, the woman was released and the man was arrested for aggravated battery. He was then taken to the Douglas County Jail.
