Lake Shawnee drowning victim identified

TOPEKA (KSNT) – The Shawnee County Sheriff’s office was on the scene of a drowning near the Lake Shawnee Yacht Club Monday evening.

The body found has been identified as 77-year-old Jack R. Shutt, of Topeka.

According to Shawnee County Park Police, the body was spotted by a sail boater at 4:14 p.m.

Shutt’s wife reports last seeing him at his residence at 2 p.m.

Shawnee County Sheriff Herman Jones says a man on a sailboat saw another man struggling in the lake before going under the water.

When crews pulled him from the lake he was already dead.

The cause of death is believed to be drowning pending confirmation by the Shawnee County Coroner’s office.

No foul play is suspected.
