Neighbors react to recent fatal shooting

TOPEKA (KSNT) – Residents on 2000 block of SE Echo Ridge Circle say that the recent fatal shooting of 20-year-old Topekan Brian Miller makes them worried for their safety.

“All I heard was a ‘pop’ like three or four times,” says Amanda. “I’m fine.”

Dominic was visiting his brother when he heard the shooting.

“I was sitting right inside of the front room and I was just watching a movie,” he says. “The next thing I know, I hear gunshots.”

Police responded to a call about the sound of those gunshots in the area around 5:39 p.m.

“I heard someone screaming from the back. Police showed up and, come to find out, someone got shot in the backyard.”

Brian Miller was found with life threatening injuries. He was taken to Stormont-Vail hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

19-year-old Deangelo M. Martinez and 16-year-old Christopher Pattillo, Jr., are the two suspects who may be involved in the investigation.
