17-year-old Washburn Rural student taken to hospital following crash

TOPEKA (KSNT) – A 17-year-old Washburn Rural High School student was taken to the hospital Wednesday morning following a single vehicle accident.

The Shawnee County Sheriff’s Office responded to the accident around 7:30 in the 5200 block of SW 69th Street, just east of Wanamaker involving a 1996 Ford Truck.

The Sheriff’s Office tells KSNT News the truck, driven by Levi D. Towns, of Topeka, was traveling westbound when the vehicle left the road and entered a ditch, striking a tree.

The 17-year-old was extricated from the vehicle and taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

He was wearing a seatbelt.

The accident is still under investigation.
