TOPEKA (KSNT) — Two people escaped from a house fire Tuesday night in Topeka. The Topeka Fire Department responded shortly after 9 p.m. to the 600 block of SW 4th Street.
A person in the house had tried to put out a fire in the living room. He and another occupant left the house without any injuries and called the police.
The Topeka Fire Department said they could see smoke from the street. Firefighters confirmed everyone was out of the house and extinguished the flames.
Initial investigation into the cause of the fire is unknown, but investigators said the fire was within the northwest living room couch.
The estimated damage loss totals to $23,000 – $17,000 in structural damage and $7,000 in content loss.
