TOPEKA (KSNT) – A citizen’s call Wednesday morning about suspicious activity in a neighborhood lands one man behind bars.
At about 5:50 a.m., the Shawnee County Emergency Communications Center received a call from a citizen reporting a suspicious vehicle located near the intersection of SE Howard and Connie Drive. When deputies arrived in the area, the suspect fled on foot. Deputies were able to locate the suspect, 29-year old Michael J. Reed, 29 of Topeka, in the area a short time later. Reed was driving a car containing several items that appeared to be stolen. Reed was transported to the Law Enforcement Center where he was questioned by detectives. He was then transported to the Shawnee County Department of Corrections where he was booked on the following charges:
Possession of Drug Paraphernalia
Criminal Damage to Property
Possession of Opiate
Possession of Stolen Property
Burglary to Vehicle
The timely information provided by citizen’s resulted in the arrest of Reed, according to the sheriff’s office. Detectives are asking citizens to call the Shawnee County Sheriff’s Office at 251-2200 if they believe they were a recent victim of theft near the Peck Subdivision this morning or if they witnessed the suspect vehicle in the area in the early morning hours Wednesday.
