TOPEKA (KSNT) — Senator Pat Roberts has reintroduced legislation to help law enforcement respond to emergencies when a person’s life is threatened.
The bill, which is called the Kelsey Smith Act, is named after an 18-year-old girl who was abducted and killed in Overland Park. Authorities found her body four days later after pinging her cell phone. .
“Providing this information as fast as possible not four days is critical to ensure law enforcement officials can rescue victims in imminent danger of death or serious physical harm,” Sen. Roberts said.
Twenty-two states have the Kelsey Smith Act in place and the bill introduced today would give all Americans the same protection.
