23-year-old guilty of attempted capital murder in shooting of deputy

INDEPENDENCE, Kan. (KSNT) — A Montgomery County jury has found 23-year-old Alejandro Arturo Garcia-Garcia guilty of several charges, including attempted capital murder.

According to Kansas Attorney General Derek Schmidt, Garcia-Garcia (a.k.a. Alex Garcia or Alejandro Garcia) was found guilty of: One count of attempted capital murder, one count of kidnapping, one count of burglary and one count of interference with law enforcement

The attempted capital murder charge is in connection with the shooting of a Montgomery County Sheriff’s deputy.

The crime occurred in May of 2015 and Garcia-Garcia faces additional charges in Oklahoma for the shooting of a law enforcement officer that happened there.

Sentencing has been scheduled for June 16 at 9 a.m. in Montgomery County District Court.

The case was investigated by the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office and the Kansas Bureau of Investigation. Assistant Attorney General Steven Karrer of Schmidt’s office prosecuted the case. Judge Jeffrey Gossard presided over the trial.
