With a storm system approaching the West Coast of the United States this week, it will create a log-jam effect of storm systems across the country. There is another system located over the Southeastern U.S., with a warm ridge of high pressure in the middle. This pattern gets stuck, so to speak, and we call it a block. This particular one takes on the shape of the Greek letter Omega (Ω) and gets the name “Omega Block”.

Tracing out the flow of the air several thousand feet up in the atmosphere gives us the shape of the Greek letter Omega.

This pattern favors nice weather over the Central United States this week.

A blocked pattern can lead to days of similar weather, but for us, stuck in the middle of the ridge of high pressure that’s not a bad thing at all! We should get a good chance to dry out and enjoy sunny, warmer weather in the days ahead.
