POWHATAN (KSNT) —  A Holton man was in jail Friday morning after he led police on a chase west of Holton.

Nineteen-year-old Colten Taft Merriman did not stop his car when Jackson County officers tried to pull him over on Wednesday night along K. Road, south of K-16 Highway and five miles west of Holton, for a traffic violation.

The chase continued west on 222nd Road to I. Road but ended after the road became extremely dusty. A Kansas Highway Patrol helicopter helped with the search.

The Brown County Sheriff’s office found Merriman in Powhattan. Merriman was booked into jail for felony fleeing and eluding a law enforcement officer, reckless driving, driving while suspended, possession of methamphetamine, possession of drug paraphernalia and trafficking contraband into a correctional facility.

Bond for Merriman has not yet been set.
