PITTSBURG, Kan. (KSNW) – A police chase in southeast Kansas early Saturday left the person who was being pursued dead, the Kansas Highway Patrol said.

Troopers say the incident occurred shortly after 2:45 a.m. Saturday in the 800 block of 20th Street in Pittsburg.

KHP says the vehicle being pursued was fleeing Pittsburg police officers when his 1995 Chevrolet Tahoe left the roadway to the north, crossed back over the roadway to the south and struck a utility pole and chain link fence before the driver was ejected.

The driver of the vehicle, 48-year-old Terry Leroy Hamblin, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The KHP report did not say why Hamblin was being pursued.
