TOPEKA, Kan. (KSNT) – A Topeka man has been arrested following a continued effort by Topeka Police to reduce reported auto thefts in the city.
TPD says they have increased investigative efforts regarding auto thefts and partnered with other agencies in investigating these thefts.
In the last few days the TPD, with assistance of the Kansas Department of Revenue, Kansas Highway Patrol, National Insurance Crime Bureau, conducted a search of J&L Auto Sales and Repair located at 1216 SW 8th in Topeka. Police say J&L Auto Sales and Repair has been linked to the ongoing investigation of Focus Recycling located at 131 SE Golden.
As a result of this investigation police say 36-year-old Jordan Jerome Smith was arrested and booked into the Shawnee County Department of Corrections. Topeka Police tells KSNT News Smith is the operator at J&L Auto Sales.
Topeka police say the city has seen a significant increase in reported auto thefts in 2016 with more than 200 reported through April of 2016
