Sabetha Lake shooting victim identified

TOPEKA, Kan. (KSNT) — The victim in last Sunday’s shooting at Sabetha Lake has been identified by authorities as 40 year old Thad Lambrecht of Bern.

According to Chief Robert Wahwasuck, Lambrecht is still hospitalized in serious condition.

At about 12:47 a.m. on Sunday, Sabetha police officers responded to a report saying that someone had been shot at the Old Sabetha Lake.

The suspect, 59-year-old Anthony Leftwich from Dawson, Neb., was physically detained by witnesses until officers arrived at the scene.

Officers were told Leftwich was armed with a handgun at the time and officers did recover the gun at the scene.

Leftwich was then taken into custody and booked into the Nemaha County Jail on an aggravated battery charge.

Leftwich and the victim were acquaintances and were arguing, which led to the shooting.

Leftwich’s bond was set at $750,000.
