MANHATTAN, Kan. (KSNT) – Law enforcement in Riley County made an arrest in connection with an unlawful sexual relations investigation that police first mentioned to the public last week.
The Riley County Police Department says Zachary Burton, 38, of Manhattan was arrested while at the Riley County Police Department on Tuesday at 5:00 p.m. He was arrested on the offenses of unlawful sexual relations between a teacher and student on four counts.
The superintendent for USD 378 tells KSNT News Burton was an assistant boys’ basketball coach at Riley County from 2013-2016, he resigned on March 21, 2016. He was also employed as a substitute teacher until May 9, 2016.
Burton was given a bond of $50,000 and is no longer at the Riley County Jail. This arrest stemmed from a warrant which was a result of the investigation into the matter involving one victim over the age of 16.
