Man hospitalized after hitting deer on US-40

TECUMSEH, Kan. (KSNT) — On Friday night, a motorcyclist hit a deer on the highway and was taken to the hospital.

At about 10:09 p.m., the Shawnee County Sheriff’s Office, the Shawnee Heights Fire Department, and AMR responded to the 7100 block of SE U.S. 40 on a call about an injury accident involving a motorcycle.

James Van Meter, 41, was driving a 2005 Yamaha motorcycle and heading eastbound on the highway when it struck a deer in the roadway.

Meter was the only person on the motorcycle and was not wearing a helmet.

He was transported to a local hospital by AMR with what were believed to be non-life-threatening injuries.
