Fatal crash closes Oakland Expressway Monday morning

TOPEKA, Kan. (KSNT) – The Shawnee County Sheriff’s Office and EMS are on the scene of a two-vehicle fatal crash south of Highway 24 and K-4 on the Oakland Expressway.

The Shawnee County Sheriff’s Office tells KSNT News the accident happened shortly after 6:00 Monday morning and is in the middle of the Expressway bridge closer to the Seward Avenue exit. The Kansas Highway Patrol says the two vehicles were a red Dodge pickup and a maroon GMC pickup. There was only one occupant in each vehicle. Both were pronounced dead at the scene.

The Oakland Expressway was closed most of the morning. The Kansas Department of Transportation announced at 11:45 a.m. that it was back open from U.S. 24 to I-70 and the incident scene was cleared.
