Federal judge blocks law that creates unequal treatment for gay people

JACKSON, Miss. (AP) – A federal judge says a Mississippi law on religious objections to same-sex marriage violates the equal protection guarantee of the Constitution. U.S. District Judge Carlton Reeves issued his decision yesterday. The law was to take effect today. Reeves wrote the law favors some religious beliefs over others and creates unequal treatment for gay people. The state will appeal.
