TOPEKA (KSNT) – It’s a Fourth of July tradition for the Shawnee County Boat & Ski Club, Monday marked their annual water ski show at Lake Shawnee.
Hundreds gathered on the north side of the lake to check out the show before the fireworks began.
Those participating in the water ski events have been practicing for the last month and there were skiers of all ages.
“The fact that I didn’t fall and I saw everybody clapping at me and I felt excited and proud of myself for doing this on the 4th of July,” said water skier Carter.
“It makes it really fun and you can always learn,” said water skier Zoie. “I’m just exploding with excitement.”
“My dad’s deployed and I don’t like it when he’s deployed, but I know why he’s deployed. He’s helping for USA freedom,” said water skier Landon. “i think he’s going to be proud. And excited he’ll probably be kind of sad because he wasn’t here with me this year.”
“How much I miss my dad,” said water skier Bella. “I think he’s going to cry, and be happy.”
