TOPEKA, Kan. (KSNT) – The Dillons at the Brookwood Shopping Center was robbed late Saturday night. The robbery of the Dillons has left residents nearby feeling a little shocked by the crime.
“This isn’t an area of town you equate with robberies going on,” Tom Gatschet said.
Even though some residents say it is an isolated incident, one says it happens too often for his comfort.
“We have had our cars opened and things taken out of the glove box,” Glenn Baker, a nearby resident said.
Tom Gatschet, who lives near the Brookwoods’ Dillons Supermarket agrees.
“Property crime in this town has been a problem since I have lived here,” Gatschet said.
Even though Gatschet has lived in the area for less than a year, he says what happened at Dillons is not emblematic of the neighborhood.
“Just a nice well-kept neighborhood. Not a lot of incidents seem to be happening around here as opposed to other areas of town,” Gatschet said.
A Dillons employee told KSNT News, the robbery seemed like something out of an action movie.
Currently, the Topeka Police Department is investigating the Dillons robbery. Police also say a suspect attacked and injured a security guard at the store. Police officials say the security guard was not seriously injured. Police have not released any more information about the incident.
