Topeka Police investigating possible homicide

TOPEKA, Kan. (TOPEKA) — The Topeka Police Department is investigating a possible homicide after a man was found shot and unresponsive in a crashed car.

Just before 3 a.m. on Saturday, officers were called to SW 34th Street and SW Gage Boulevard on a call about a car that had hit a building.

When officers arrived, they saw that a silver Kia Optima had crashed into a building at 3401 SW Gage Boulevard. The driver, a black man, was unresponsive and was the only person inside the car. While administering aid, first responders found that he had been shot.

The man was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The man has not yet been identified. Once a positive identification is made and his family has been notified, his name will be released to the public.

This is currently being investigated as a homicide, so anyone with information should contact the Topeka Police Department at 785-368-9551.
