TOPEKA, Kan. (KSNT) – Diversity and inclusion – both are words heard pretty often these days.
Washburn University is putting them into action with the naming of a new director.
Danielle Dempsey-Swopes took the reigns as the schools director of diversity and inclusion at the end of July.
She tells KSNT news she will be working to figure out the climate of the university – discovering student needs and helping to provide them with tools to figure out where they stand on various diversity issues.
Dempsey-Swopes will work closely with university departments to develop and implement new programs, in an effort to appeal to historically under represented campus groups.
Of her new position and the role it plays on campus, the new director said, “Washburn is committed to assuring a university working and learning environment where all of the diverse interests, values, experiences, intellectual ideas and cultural views are respected and appreciated.”
