Osage County deputies cleared in use of force incident last fall

OSAGE COUNTY, Kan. (KSNT) – Osage County Attorney Brandon Jones has ruled on a use of force case in Osage County that resulted in a man’s death.

The ruling stems from a domestic incident call last October in northern Osage County.  Deputies were called to a home where they encountered 47-year-old Kenneth Shick and two other people.

The investigation shows Schick became combative and deputies used a taser and pepper spray to subdue him.

After Shick was taken into custody, he suddenly stopped breathing.  He was taken to a hospital where he later died.  The cause of death was ruled as “cardiac arrhythmia.”

Jones ruled no criminal charges would be filed against the three Osage County Sheriff’s deputies who were involved in the case.
