Interim fire chief named for Topeka

TOPEKA, Kansas (KSNT) – The City of Topeka has named Chief of Emergency Medical Services, Richard Sigle Jr. as interim fire chief.

As Chief Tim Wayne ends his six-month contract with the City of Topeka, Sigle will take over as a search continues for a permanent fire chief.

Sigle is a 15-year employee of the Topeka Fire Department, getting his start with the department back in 2001. In that time, he was promoted to lieutenant and was recently promoted to EMS chief earlier this year. Sigle has experience with ambulance services and training in EMS delivery. Sigle will also earn an additional five percent towards his salary, which is currently a little over $93,000 a year.

The City of Topeka is in process of selecting a fire chief and hopes have a new chief in place by mid-September.

Sigle will begin his duties as interim fire chief starting Saturday, August 20.
