H.S. Football Preview: Sabetha BlueJays

SABETHA (KSNT) – The BlueJays hope that their postseason success last year will transition into some early success this season.

“After we ended last year 5-1 in our last six games and you beat a team like Centralia and you beat a team like Silver Lake, it gives you great confidence,” said Garrett Michael, Sabetha head coach. “It just helps your program build higher and higher expectations.”

Last year was almost a rebuilding year for the BlueJays after losing a big senior class the year before, but this year, it looks like there won’t be any fall back.

“This year we got a lot of returning size and talent,” said Brendan Rokey, Sabetha senior right guard and defensive end.

Sabetha looks to use some experience to return themselves into championship contention in the Big 7 League, but ultimately, it’s all about what happens after the regular season, and some of the seniors know that they need to do,

“We just got to come out and get better every practice and every game,” said Christian Meyer, Sabetha senior quarterback and defensive back. “That’s our focus from day one, so that’s what we’re planning on doing the rest of the season.”

Sabetha opens up their season against Centralia on September 2nd.
