Lawrence police respond to accidental shooting involving 6-year-old

LAWRENCE, Kan. (KSNT) – The Lawrence Police Department responded to an accidental shooting involving a 6-year-old Thursday morning.

Police tell KSNT News that around 7:45 a.m. officers responded to a residence in the 500 block of Wisconsin Street in reference to an accidental shooting involving a 6-year-old child.

The child was transported to a local hospital. Police say the child is expected to recover and is currently being treated at a Kansas City area hospital for non-life threatening injuries.

Lawrence Police Detectives are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Police tell KSNT News there were several adult witnesses at the residence, all of which have been interviewed by investigators.

Police say once the investigation is complete, it will be sent to the Douglas County District Attorney’s Office for charging consideration.
