WAMEGO (KSNT) – WAR refers to an acronym used by the Wamego Football team.
“Win, advance, and repeat,” said Lee Weber, Wamego head coach. “That’s what we want to do.”
The Red Raiders look to capitalize on some late season momentum from last year and hope that transitions into this year.
“Last year we started 1-5,” Weber said. “We had a great finish, we won 4 of our last 5, lost to state champions in the playoffs, so our goal is to continue and advance.”
Weber is now in his 2nd year at the helm for Wamego, and after getting accustomed to his ways, the players are ready for a cooperative effort in 2016.
“We were just trying to learn him and he was trying to learn us,” said Dillon Blain, Wamego senior quarterback. “I think the biggest difference this year is that we have a lot more confidence in each other and it’s going to start out pretty well.”
After a few weeks of practice, the progress is showing.
“Our team is looking pretty good,” said Sam Wohler, Wamego senior wide receiver and cornerback. “It’s looking like we have a lot more chemistry than last year and we hope to have a good year.”
Wamego will open up their season on September 2nd against Rock Creek.
