Officers increase parking patrol in downtown Topeka

TOPEKA, Kan. (KSNT) –  As of September 1, the city of Topeka will be collecting fines for drivers violating parking limits along Kansas Avenue.

The areas impacted include bagged meter stalls between 6th and 10th streets between Jackson and Quincy.

Parking control officers will be active along the streets once every hour, recording how long cars have been parked in the bagged stalls.

Enforcement has been minimal during redevelopment in the area that began in March 2014.

At that time, the city bagged the meters as a way of offering free, two hour parking that would offer more accessibility to visitors during construction.

Drivers found to be in violation of the two-hour time limit will be fined $8.00 for their first offense.

Repeat offenders will be fined $15.00.
