Westar looking to partner with lawn mowing goats

TOPEKA, Kan. (KSNT) – Westar Energy is looking into a new business partnership with about 70 lawn-mowing goats.

They grazed around an energy center in Saint Marys Tuesday. Westar Energy is partnering with Barnyard Weed Warriors based out of Hunter.

The animals were released in a one acre area, and then moved through the pasture.

“The goats like trees and brush the invasive trees and brush like the elm trees, young elm trees. They’ll just strip an elm tree of the bark. Locust trees, mulberry trees, cedar trees.”

The pilot project will be used to figure out if the goats can be used on a bigger area of land owned by Westar and other landowners.
