WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) – One person died and another was seriously injured in a house fire in east Wichita Wednesday night. It happened in the 2800 block of E. Lincoln shortly after 7:20 p.m.
The first firefighters on the scene found smoke showing from the single-family home. When they entered the house, they found smoke and flames in the basement.
When a second victim was located, additional trucks were dispatched to help fight the fire.
One of the victims was rescued by firefighters and taken to Via Christi St. Francis hospital in critical condition.
The second person was not breathing after being rescued from the house. That person was pronounced dead at the scene.
Fire Chief Ron Blackwell said two firefighters were injured fighting the blaze. One was overcome by heat, and the other twisted an ankle at the scene.
Officials said Lincoln St. between S. Estelle and S. Chatauqua will be closed most of the night was the investigation into the fire continues.
