Topeka police respond to early morning carjacking


UPDATE: Topeka police arrest suspect in Wednesday morning carjacking

TOPEKA, Kan. (KSNT) – Topeka police responded to a reported carjacking early Wednesday morning.

The incident occurred at 1700 South Topeka Boulevard. The victim reported that a younger Hispanic male, approximately 5’09”, 150 Ibs, medium build entered the victim’s 4 door Sedan while he was fueling the vehicle.

The suspect then pointed a silver handgun at the victim and drove away, heading east bound on SW 17th Street. The victim ran to safety and called 911.

Police tell KSNT News officers spotted the stolen vehicle 15 minutes later in the area of SE 2nd & SE Rice. Police attempted to stop the car but the suspect refused to comply, initiating in a pursuit.

Officer’s followed the carjacked vehicle to the area of SE 2nd and SE Golden where the suspect wrecked the vehicle down an embankment of the Shunga Creek.

Topeka officers set up a perimeter and used K9 units but the suspect was able to flee the area and avoid capture.
