Topeka man arrested for intentionally starting apartment fire

TOPEKA, Kan. (KSNT) – An 18-year-old Topeka man was arrested Thursday morning after being suspected of intentionally starting an apartment fire.

The Topeka Fire Department says crews responded to an apartment fire at 6117 SW 26th Court at 2:30 a.m. When crews arrived they found smoke coming from inside the four unit apartment building. Crews were able to quickly extinguish the fire. Crews searched the building and found it to be empty.

A witness on scene reported the fire was started by a man who remained on the scene. Topeka police located and transported the individual to the Law Enforcement Center for questioning. He was identified as Justin R. Fish, who was then booked into jail on charges of burglary and aggravated arson.

Early investigation by fire officials have determined the fire to be arson.

The estimated amount of damage is $1,000.
