Police Lights Crime Scene

EMPORIA, Kan. (KSNT) – Officers were sent to a report of a suspicious device found late Friday morning.

The Emporia Police Department said the report came in at 11:00 of a suspicious device in the area of South Avenue and Constitution. The report was of a closed pressure cooker sitting on the curb across the street from Maynard School just north of the intersection, who was made aware of the incident.

Police say the pressure cooker was located and the block was shut off. The Topeka Police Explosive Ordnance Disposal was called in.

Emporia police were able to locate the property owner who said the pressure cooker was placed on the curb for recycling after their garage was cleaned out. He didn’t realize what it might look like to someone driving into the area. The lid was removed and the pot was empty.

Emporia police say even though this was a false alarm, people are urged to report anything they see suspicious.
