TOPEKA, Kan. (KSNT) – The family of a 29-year-old woman who was hit and killed by a car is grieving the loss of their loved one.
Topeka Boulevard is busy now, but it was quiet Saturday night. 29-year-old Amanda Nicholas was struck and killed by two cars at the 5300 block of Topeka Boulevard.
“A nightmare… just thought… Hoping it wasn’t her,” Melissa Nicholas, Amanda Nicholas’ sister said.
The Shawnee County Sheriff’s Department says the crash happened when it was raining heavily and seeing things were difficult.
“It’s been… feels like someone ripped out my heart,” Nicholas said.
Melissa remembers her sister as a selfless person…
“She’d act a fool just to make you laugh,” Nicholas said. “She had nieces and nephews she’d do anything and everything she could for them.”
“She’d go for walks with them,” Nicholas said. “She’d take them to the park. She’d sit down and even just watch a movie with them. She loved to be around them.”
Melissa says she will have to carry on the memory of her sister…
“You have to learn to live without them,” Nicholas said.
During all the grieving…the sheriff’s department’s investigation continues. The department says none of the drivers involved were impaired at the time of the crash. They are trying to find out why Amanda Nicholas was in the street.
The family of Amanda Nicholas have also created a GoFundMe account to help pay for the cost of the funeral.
