HOLTON, Kan. (KSNT) – An accident involving a car and a semi on U.S. 75 in Jackson County is slowing down traffic Thursday morning.
The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office says they responded shortly before 7:00 to the crash located at 190th and U.S. 75.
A red 2006 Grand Vitara Suzuki, driven by 21-year-old Chaz Lance Shopteese, of Topeka, was westbound crossing U.S. 75 when he was struck by a southbound semi truck and trailer, driven by Tesfu T. Tekeste, of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Both vehicles left the highway.
Jackson County Sheriff Tim Morse tells KSNT News the semi landed on its side about 150 yards from the impact point at the bottom of a ravine on the west side of the highway.
Morse says the driver of the car was transported to a Topeka hospital with injuries. The truck driver refused treatment.
The Kansas Highway Patrol is investigating the accident.
The south bound lanes of U.S. 75 were temporally shut down while crews worked the scene but have now reopened.
Both drivers were wearing seat belts.
