EMPORIA, Kan. (KSNT) – An Emporia man was arrested late Monday night for attempted murder and criminal damage to property.
The Emporia Police Department says around 11:08 Monday nigh, officers were sent to 1209 Sundown Circle for a report of a domestic disturbance. A man was reported to have sent threatening text messages and then showed up at that location with an axe. Police says there was damage to property and that the suspect had left when they arrived.
Police located the suspect a short time later driving a pickup on 6th Ave. Police tell KSNT News there was a short chase with an axe being thrown from the pickup that was later recovered. The suspect called the residence at 1209 Sundown during the pursuit. An officer who was at the scene talked to the suspect on the phone and was able to get him to pull over. He was taken into custody without injury or further damage to property.
Police identified the man as 43-year-old David E. Rutledge. He was confined in the Lyon County Jail.
Emporia police say the investigation is on going at this time.
