TOPEKA, Kan. (KSNT) – A Topeka pastor has been booked into jail for the second time in just a week.
According to jail records, 61-year-old Gregory Allen Varney, a pastor of Light of the World Christian Center, was arrested and booked into the Shawnee County Jail Wednesday night on charges of disorderly conduct, obstruction of official duty and battery on a law enforcement officer.
Topeka police tell KSNT News Varney left an area hospital and was behaving erratically. He ended up at 1901 SW 10th Street where officers made contact with him. Police say he was resistive to assistance and eventually taken into custody.
Last week Topeka police say the pastor was arrested after he used a car to assault his daughter at his home.
The church told KSNT News Friday his changes in behavior are believed to be caused by the toxins released in his body when his kidneys failed. His family is working to get him help. The sheriff’s office would not tell us about the specifics of the crime he’s accused of.
The Light of the World Christian Center was founded in 1985 by Varney and his wife. It’s been at its current location since 1993.
