Kansas community cleaning up after the storms

CLAY CENTER, Kan. (KSNT) – People in Clay Center are cleaning up after a tornado touched down south of the town Thursday evening.

As KSNT News was driving around Thursday, several people stopped us to show the damage.

One of those families is the Charest family. Their hunting cabin was completely demolished. They were standing on their back deck as the tornado started forming on their property. When they felt like it was too dangerous to be out, they took cover in their basement.

The homeowner tells KSNT News he had the best people looking out for his family.

“I cannot say how much I appreciate the support of our community, said Floyd Charest Jr. Because we had so many people and neighbors checking on us and it’s just a very good feeling.”

Floyd tells KSNT News there wasn’t a lot in the hunting cabin and he is not sure how he will get it out of the pond.

The storm also brought flooding around Osage and Redwood Road.
