MIAA preseason hoops poll released; Washburn 2nd, ESU 11th

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Northwest Missouri, who won both the regular season and tournament championship last season, have been picked to finish a top the league in men’s basketball once again earning all of the first place votes available to them.

Coming in second in this year’s poll is Washburn, who got the lone remaining first place vote coming in with 147 points behind the Bearcats. Fort Hays State has been picked third by the coaches and Lincoln was picked fourth coming in just six points behind the Tigers. Missouri Southern earned the fifth place slot from the coaches coming in seven points of ahead of Nebraska-Kearney who is picked sixth by the coaches.

Things get really tight starting with the seventh place spot which went to Central Oklahoma with 94 overall points, which is just one point ahead of Pittsburg State who earned 94 points and was picked eight. Central Missouri earned 92 overall points in the poll just one behind the Gorillas and are picked ninth by the league’s coaches.

Lindenwood earned the 10th spot in this season’s poll with Emporia State coming in 11th in the poll just ten points ahead of Missouri Western who was picked 12th overall. Northeastern State is picked 13th by the coaches and just four points behind that is Southwest Baptist who is picked 14th in the league.

Exhibition play for men’s basketball teams is slated to begin on Oct. 28 with teams taking to the court for real starting on Friday, Nov. 11. League play is slated to get underway on Dec. 3 with team pushing towards the MIAA Championship which will run Feb. 27, March 4-5 of 2017 for the men from campus sites and Municipal Auditorium in Kansas City, Mo.
